02.01 Comprehensive exams

The hour that anchors every treatment plan.

Your first comprehensive exam is the clinic’s longest appointment, and on purpose. We’d rather know the whole mouth before we touch any of it.

A comprehensive exam is a full assessment of your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joint, and soft tissue — plus a conversation about your health, medications, and what you’ve noticed lately. Everything we do later is built on what we find here.

We take time to explain what we’re seeing, show you images (X-rays, intraoral photos), and flag anything we’re going to keep an eye on. If a treatment is needed, we explain the options — and the costs — before you leave the room.

What’s included

Clinical exam of all teeth, gums, and soft tissue. Digital X-rays as needed. Oral cancer screening. Bite and TMJ assessment. Periodontal charting. Review of medical history. Conversation about anything you’ve noticed.

When we recommend it

New patients — always. Existing patients — at least every three years, or sooner if something has changed (new medication, a restoration that’s starting to fail, a change in your mouth you’re wondering about).

What comes next

A written plan, in plain language, with costs and priorities. Sometimes the plan is “nothing — come back in six months for hygiene.” That’s a good outcome, and we’ll tell you so.
